An escaped parrot was finally reunited with its owner after hailing a cabbie.

Evie, an African Grey parrot, flew away from her home in Staffordshire three weeks ago.

Her owner, Peter Jackson, 68, was distraught and searched high and low for her, but a taxi driver was stunned when the 11-year-old bird flew right up to him and said: "Hello!"

After holding his hand out to her, Evie hopped on his arm and crawled up to his shoulder.

Incredibly, he managed to find Evie's owner after posting on Facebook. Problem Parrots employee Rebecca Hartill-Speak saw the taxi driver's post and launched an online appeal and put a shout out in their local paper.

Luckily, Peter saw the article and was reunited with Evie.

He told the Daily Mirror: "It was absolutely terrible when she took off. I got her so I would have some company after my wife passed away in 2013.

"I'm so grateful for what everyone has done and I'm absolutely thrilled to have her back - she's my soul mate."
