And when she was five weeks old, her owners felt they had no choice to put her down as they couldn't afford to pay the vet bills.
Luckily, 30-year-old Christine Broyles, from California, heard about Nimble and adopted her.
Vets never discovered why the little chihuahua had lost her paws, but speculated it could be due to her mother ingesting something that harmed the pup when she was just an embryo.
Since saving her life, Christine has been by Nimble's side while she went through corrective surgery on her limbs.
Animal specialists told her Nimble would never run again.
But Nimble didn't let that stop her, and she has recovered well and loves nothing more than dashing around in the garden.
She's even awaiting some brand new prosthetic paws, courtesy of 3D Printing Store in Colorado.
Christine posts updates on Nimble's Facebook page, as well as adorable photos of the puppy cuddling up to her other dogs and guinea pigs.
