New reality TV show Fashion Builder follows Welsh builders trying to become the next top models

Move over Britain's Next Top Model, there's a brand new set of wannabe models on our screens, and they're not quite what you'd expect...

Building sites are probably the last place most of us would go to scout for modelling talent, but new reality TV series Ffasiwn Bildar (which translates as Fashion Builder) has done exactly that.

Presented by plasterer-turned-model Dylan Garner, Wales' hottest new show is in search of sexy builders to compete on the catwalk.

Dylan – who has represented Ted Baker and White Stuff – is on a mission to transform the public's perception of builders.

Check out the line-up in the gallery below:

"The unfortunate image builders have gained over the years, like builder's bum and their drinking, is a bit old-fashioned nowadays," he says. "If you go to building sites these days, you'll see that the boys look after their bodies."

Set with the task of finding the building industry's 'perfect man', Dylan has chosen 14 of Wales' sexiest builders to vie for the crown.

The contestants will take on both building and modelling challenges to see who succeeds on the scaffold and the catwalk.

Each week, one labourer will be given the boot. And whoever makes it to the top will win £3,500, as well as a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity to appear on the cover of Professional Builder magazine.

They'll even get a chance to model for builders' favourite work-wear brand, Dickies.

Dylan is keen to give other workmen an opportunity to break into the industry, after he was spotted by an agent.

"By profession, I'm a plasterer, but I'm quite handy with a hammer, too," the 33-year-old says. "I love plastering and I also love modelling."

From joiners to bricklayers, the lucky 14 are an unlikely but genuinely nice bunch of hard-working blokes.

Jac Roberts is a 23-year-old from Caernarfon. Like Dylan, he's a plasterer. He thinks he's got what it takes to model because the ladies love him.

That seems to be the ethos of the show – what the contestants lack in experience they certainly make up for in confidence.

After building a catwalk as their challenge in episode one, the lads walk down it and pose in front of a camera for the first time. And, as expected, there are some hilarious moments.

"I've been practising in my machine's mirror, but it cracked!" says Dewi Wyn Williams, from Bryngwran.

While most of them look like ducks out of water, some are naturals.

In episode two, the chaps are asked to choose a prop from their toolbox that represents them. Lleu Hill is quick to grab his trusty spirit level. "It's the first thing I take out and the last thing I put away," the 26-year-old carpenter says.

When it comes to elimination, Dylan is joined by building expert Adam Jones and a guest judge.

Funny and unique, the reality TV show is not only entertaining, but it also proves builders are so much more than hot bods in hi-vis.

FFasiwn Bildar is on every Thursday at 8.25pm on S4C (Sky 104 in Wales, Sky 134 in England, Scotland and NI). The series is also available on BBC iPlayer.
