Jake was four weeks old when William rescued him

Firefighter William Lindler had rescued him from his local neighbourhood in South Carolina, USA.

Little Jake was left with 75 per cent burns on his tiny body, and his owners couldn't afford the vet bills so abandoned him.

He's been made an honorary member of the fire team

So after saving his life once, William decided to take Jake in.

As he recovered, he became a regular at Hanahan Fire Department where William worked.

And he's now been made an official member of the team.

Jake accompanies William in the fire engine and also teaches school children about fire safety.

He's hoping Jake will become a therapy dog to help children who have suffered burns.
