Luxury supermarket Waitrose have started selling emu eggs, just in time for Easter.

The equivalent in size to 12 hen eggs, these massive eggs cost a hefty £23.99 in Waitrose stores. And apparently, they're in season at the moment…

Emu eggs can be up to 15cm tall

Waitrose told The Daily Mirror: "They say you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

"But there is one on sale in Waitrose that is so large it can easily make four omelettes."

The shells of the huge eggs are so tough, when emus give birth standing up, they don't even crack when they hit the floor. That's handy really, as the ginormous birds are among the tallest in the world.

While the eggs are meant to be very fluffy and great for baking cakes, the newspaper reports it would take 90 minutes to boil one.
