The Elf on the Shelf has only really just made it big over here in the UK – 10 years after the Christmas book was written.

Adorable and odd, the children's book comes with an elf figurine that parents leave in unusual spots around the home for the kids to find.

I brought in re-enforcement to get FLE the "Elf on the Shelf" under control.

One American dad has taken the tradition to a new level by becoming the Elf on the Shelf.

Joe Wynberg, who has four, very lucky children, has taken it upon himself to dress up as the elf and take photographs in ridiculous around the house.

Awe! For pete's sake! I knew it was too good to be true.

His wife Megan has been posting his daily antics to Facebook and it's hilarious.

She wrote on her profile: "So we finally caved and decided to do the 'Elf on the Shelf' thing.

"The kids are going to be so surprised! We named our elf FLE and he will be in some pretty precarious spots over the next 24 days! Enjoy."

So FLE has been trying to get in the house all day. Then I found him doing this. I may have to bring him back in before the neighbours call the cops.

And wow, have we been enjoying Fle's escapades so far.

The naughty elf has been caught in some rather uncompromising positions – riding a reindeer attached to the wall, dangling from fairy lights and even hanging upside down outside the living room window.

Joe, you are officially the coolest dad alive.
