Sara Clark was shopping in a card store with her two-year-old son Corey when he spotted a singing and dancing bear costing £10.
Sara, 27, said: "He grabbed it off the shelf and started hugging and kissing it and kept asking me for it. When I said to him I couldn't afford it until next week he got really upset as I had to put it back on the shelf."
Witnessing this scene, a woman they had never met before was so moved by the little lad's tears, she volunteered to pay for it.
"I was at the checkout paying for my Christmas cards the lady came up behind me and passed Corey the teddy back and put £10 in my hand and told me she was buying it him for Christmas as she doesn't have any little ones," said Sara.
"This amazing lady had me in tears and I can't thank her enough as now Corey is one very happy little boy and you have showed him the magic of Christmas. So thank you."
The mum has posted an appeal on Facebook to find the lady who showed such generosity and it has been shared over 200 times.
But the identity of the stranger who helped spread some Christmas cheer is still a mystery…
