What's meant to be a flirtatious, elegant affair can very quickly turn to horror if you gobble up your huge plate of chips too quickly. Or worse, get food in your teeth/hair/cardigan.
But never fear, because apparently romance and class is not what the majority of British first daters are after.
According to a new study, our ideal venue for a first date is… Nando's. Yep.
Dating app Clover asked 500,000 users where they'd most like to get to know someone, and they answered with a resounding cry of "a high-street chicken restaurant."
While women preferred to meet in a coffee shop, men would rather schmooze their potential love interest in a restaurant.
Coming close second after a cheeky Nando's as the ideal date location was Costa Coffee. Really?! Other establishments to make the cut were McDonald's and Cineworld.
Clover CEO Isaac Raichyk told The Metro: "We were surprised to see most people choosing to meet at coffee shops and casual restaurants for their first date.
"We expected fine dining, bars and nightclubs to rank much higher, but clearly people want to meet in a relaxed environment.
"Men seem more willing to commit to a first meeting over dinner at a restaurant vs women who prefer being able to screen dates quickly over coffee."
We'd be doing a runner if our date took us out for half a chicken and a corn on the cob.
