A bungling group of suspected burglars has been arrested – after they dialled 999 from the scene of the crime.

The trio was forced to call emergency services when one of them collapsed, just half a mile from their local police station.

By the time officers got there, one man was lying on the ground while the other two were "comforting him."

After the botched burglary, the ill man, 38, was taken to hospital and treated for chest pains.

A man was rushed to hospital from the crime scene

But that was the least of his worries, as after being treated, he was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

His clumsy comrades, aged 41 and 46, were also put under arrest and a police spokesman said the three men are suspected of breaking into a string of sheds in the Maidstone area in Kent.

Local resident Nicholas Herbert, 28, told The Daily Star: "It must have been the easiest bust this year – three burglars who handed themselves in at the scene of the crime.

"The officers must have been having quite a laugh about it down the station."

The red-faced threesome has been bailed until October 31.
