It's National Underwear Day but are we a nation of bra hoarders?

Women have opened up their drawers and revealed their underwear habits for National Underwear Day.

New research shows that 80% of women have a faithful 'security blanket' bra that they've owned between one to three years. So basically, we're a nation of bra hoarders!

Some 9% admitted to keeping hold of their bras for more than four years, while 60% admit they've squeezed into bras that are at least one cup too big or small. Oops.

Bra confessions aside, it does seem that women - some 58% - have no issue in taking selfies in their favourite lingerie, further driving the 'underwear as outerwear' trend.

In addition to this, the survey conducted by Ann Summers found that 70% of women are now more confident in wearing their bra as outerwear after getting inspiration from the likes of Rihanna, Kylie Jenner and Rita Ora.

"The Brassiere is 101 years old – and yet women still haven't quite mastered the art of wearing a bra that really fits them," says bra fitting expert, Gayle Tong.

"The average bra size in Britain and Ireland is a 34DD – 3 sizes bigger than 30 years ago, which is why it's more important than ever to look after our bigger boobs and wear a bra that provides the best support."
