A library book that was borrowed way back in 1950 has finally been returned!

Sir Jay Tidmarsh, 82, accidentally kept a copy of Ashenden by W.Somerset Maughan for a whopping 65 years.

The former businessman had borrowed the book from Taunton School in Somerset, where he was once a pupil.

And it was only when the chap was clearing out the shelves at his Bristol home that he discovered the extremely overdue book and spotted the stamp that indicated his mistake.

Sir Jay, who was Bristol's Lord Lieutenant until 2007, sent the item back to the school's library, along with a generous "fine" of £1,500.

Although a 65-year fine would actually cost £2,847, the school was quoted in the Daily Mail saying they're "delighted" with the donation.

And, no doubt, finally having their book back!
