Everyone knows how annoying rail delays and train cancellations are - but they nearly ruined one man's elaborate proposal!

Romantic Samuel Goetsch decided he wanted to pop the question to his girlfriend Stephanie Dodd - who is a massive Harry Potter fan.

The scene with Harry Potter and Dumbledore that was filmed in Surbiton station

So the 24-year-old from Houston, Texas, decided to surprise his partner by whisking her 5,000 miles from home to Surbiton train station in Surrey, where a scene from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film was shot.

The thoughtful bloke specifically chose this spot as the scene focuses on Dumbledore and Harry talking about new beginnings.

However after the couple arrived in Britain, Samuel's grand plans had to be rearranged – because South West trains had cancelled their trains for the weekend!

Quick-thinking Ben had to convince Stephanie to jump on a rail-replacement bus to get to the station.

His dad, Stephen Goestch, who lives in Ashtead, Surrey, was quoted in The Telegraph explaining: "He had to pretend he had some business in Surbiton and convince her to go with him."

Luckily things worked out, and Stephanie said yes.

We're not surprised - who could say no to such a "magical" proposal?
