When Richard Carr won £1m on a scratchcard while waiting for a bus, understandably he was delighted!

But he didn't want to splash out on designer brands and luxuries - instead all he wanted was to buy a place of his own to decorate with his seven-year-old son.

Richard won £1m on his way to work!

Because up until that point, the 29-year-old had lived in the hotel he worked at in order to save money.

Richard had bought the scratchcard on his way to work and was so astonished at his win, he had to return to the girl at the shop counter, who confirmed that he'd hit the jackpot.

And although he still went into work to do his shift, he admitted he will be quitting soon.

He was quoted in the Daily Mirror, saying: "I absolutely love working here but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm very lucky to now be able to step back from work for a while.

"I can't believe this. I must be the happiest man alive."

He also plans to buy a new car and take his family to Australia.

What a way to kick off the New Year. Congratulations, Richard!
