One lucky man is hanging up his broom for good after winning £4.5 million on the Lotto - despite returning to work after checking his ticket!

Joseph Whiting was so stunned to discover he'd bagged the jackpot win that he still went to his job, sweeping roads.

The 42-year-old had checked his tickets at 4am but his big win didn't sink in until later that day.

Joseph is currently living with his mum after splitting from his partner and was quoted in The Sun discussing the moment he found out.

"It took me a while to realise it was true. I said to my mum, 'I think I've won the lottery!' She said: 'Give over – it's too early in the morning for wind-ups.'"

So the dad-of-three went to his £20,000-a-year job for the day. "I left the ticket and went to work. My mind was all over the place. Even now it's not sunk in."

Joseph wasn't even going to bother with the Lotto, but decided to give it a go just nine minutes before last Wednesday's (17 September) draw.

His three lucky dips from a local Spar in Camden, North London, resulted in the chap gaining a third of the quadruple rollover.

Now a millionaire, he's since ditched his job and will be treating his son and two daughters to a trip to Disney World. The footie fan is also planning on buying a season ticket for Arsenal.

We have to say, we're not sure we would be in work if we'd won that much!
