The remaining G.R.L. members - Lauren Bennett, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen - who are tipped for chart success this weekend with their hit 'Ugly Heart', took to social media on Saturday to express their grief.

They wrote: "Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone's incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart.

"We will carry her memory with us in everything we do.''

Simon Cowell, who mentored Simone on the 2011 series of US X Factor, also expressed his sorrow at the devastating news.

He said: "I am so sad to hear about the news Simone Battle has passed away. She was such a fun nice person. It's such a loss. Rest in peace Simone."

Simone's death was confirmed in a statement released by G.R.L.'s record label on Saturday morning.

It read: ‎"We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L.

"Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time."

The cause of death is currently unknown but an autopsy has been scheduled for this weekend, and reports suggest that the beautiful singer took her own life after a history of depression.
