So we were delighted for one family who lost their canine companion - but were then reunited with him after nine whole days!
Sprig, an adorable nine-year-old springer spaniel, vanished on 22 August while he was out on a walk with his owners, Mark and Susie Sanders.
The devastated couple began an immediate search, putting up hundreds of posters and even involving local fishing boats and an animal ambulance team.
After a week long search, Minehead's volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew spotted what they thought was a sheep stuck on the cliffs by Foreland Point, north Devon.
When they investigated further, it turned out to be missing Sprig.
He'd been trapped on the rocky ledge, 100ft above the sea, without any food or water. What a poor puppy!
He was soon reunited with with his frantic family, who were obviously delighted to have their precious pet back.
Helmsman Andrew Escott said: "He had clearly been there for some time because he was licking water off my dry suit. And he did seem rather pleased to see us."
What a "paws-itively" awesome end to the story!
