Our hearts have melted for poor little Jed, who has been dubbed Britain's least-wanted dog.

The lonely lurcher was just a pup when he was taken in by the Dogs Trust and sadly the seven-year-old pooch still remains in the rescue shelter.

Jed has been overlooked by a massive 17,000 potential owners and we're puzzled as to why – he looks pretty darn cute to us!

According to Battersea Dogs Home, the average dog spends 29 days in care, which makes Jed the longest canine to stay in kennels.

Nikki Holroyd who works for the Darlington rescue centre explained: "He was rehomed twice but it didn't work out. He is cuddly and loves affection."

She also added: "People are put off by the exercise they think lurchers need, but they don't need too much."

Let's hope that this handsome hound finds a home pronto.
