US stars Paris Hilton and Sharon Osbourne are constantly snapped with their cute dogs in tow, but it seems us Brits are equally obsessed with their pets.

In fact, a new survey has revealed that 88 per cent of pet owners treat their furry friends in the same way they treat their kids!

Astar Pets spoke to 1,000 animal owners and found that we are making a transition from "pet owners" to "pet parents", with one in six showering their pets with more expensive gifts than they would give to their partner.

And 90 per cent of pampered pets will receive a Christmas present, while 66 per cent get a birthday gift.

On average, doting owners spend a huge £70 on their animals each month and 60 per cent of pets will receive a treat ever week – lucky them!

While parents will make sure their children get their veggies and nutrients, it seems like pets are also treated in the same way too! More than half admitted to giving their furry little ones specialist or organic food brands – and 28 per cent even give them vitamin supplements.

A third of precious pooches and felines will also get their own pet-sitter or walker when their owners are out during the day.

A spokesperson said: "The UK has truly transformed from being a nation of pet owners to being a nation of pet parents who enjoying spending time with and treating their pet."
