A resourceful couple were forced to use Haribo rings to tie the knot after burglars stole their £1,000 wedding bands just two days before their wedding ceremony.

David and Natalie Norris-Lee refused to let the theft spoil their day though and so, deciding against buying cheap replacement bands, they opted for sweet treats instead.

David and Natalie used sweets as wedding rings

Natalie explained to the Daily Star: "I just said to Dave I'd rather use Haribo sweets, so we did.

"We wanted to make light of it – but we also wanted to show that they couldn't ruin our big day."

But unfortunately the sweet symbols of their love didn't last long, as the couple had to munch them not long after the ceremony when they started to melt in the heat.

The burglary was only the first of a series of wedding day mishaps for the couple.

Natalie said: "We had a theft, married each other using Haribo, the band was late and there was a fire at the hotel, but we were not going to let anything spoil what was a wonderful day."

Let's hope the sweet newlyweds have a "gummy" good time on their honeymoon to Thailand next week!
