As Caroline Marshall was saying her vows to James Granshaw, a handbag, which contained her precious jewellery, was nicked from the church in Wisborough Green, West Sussex.
Understandably, new bride Caroline, 32, was devastated to learn that the handmade sparkler - worth £6,000 - had vanished.
The sapphire and diamond encrusted platinum band had been designed especially for her by James, 29.
Also in the bag was a iPhone, which the couple tracked for a couple of hours, which indicated that the culprit was travelling towards Brighton, where he may be trying to sell on the ring.
Mervyn Granshaw, James' dad, told The Sun: "It is just appalling to do this to a bride on her wedding day. To steal a bride's ring from a church – how low can you go?"
