But that's exactly what a Securicor filler had to do when he managed to get himself trapped in an ATM at a petrol station in Brentwood, Essex.
The fire brigade called their specialist "urban search and rescue team" and they arrived at the Shell petrol station with heavy-duty cutting gear to free the man.
After the ensuring that he wasn't a robber, they set to work.
A brigade spokesman said: "After verifying his identity, firefighters set to work to free him."
It took two hours to rescue him from the tiny vault and the fire fighters had to dismantle the whole ATM.
The guard was unhurt but shaken up from the ordeal and was said to be recovering last night.
