But even we were shocked when we discovered just how long we spend doing nothing.
New research carried out by O2 found that we spend an incredible 27 days of our life waiting for trains and buses - that's nearly a whole month!
And it's no wonder we Brits are known for our love of queueing - we spend a massive six months in them. Definitely something to bear in mind next time you're in line to buy yet another pair of shoes.
And despite us all despising listening to usually rubbish hold music on the phone, we spend a hefty 20 weeks of our life doing so.
However, we're all prepared to play the waiting game and there are some products in the UK that have a super long waiting list.
The biggest is the rather fancy The Hurlingham Club, where you have to wait an unbelievable 30 years to be a member.
Cars are also big on the agenda, with Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 having an 11-month wait and both the BMW i8 and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta taking 10 months.
And Roald Dahl's Matilda, which was recently turned into a West End show, is so popular that you can't get a ticket for seven months!
But all of this waiting around is no good for your health and psychologist Linda Papadopoulous has given some tips on how to deal with it: "Feeling that we have to wait gives us a sense of anxiety, unfairness and frustration.
"The way around it is ensuring that you make your life easier by learning to time manage and investing in products and services that value your time as much as you do."
