Adele Greenarce's dad Derek left the family home when she was just 11 weeks old and never returned.
Vanishing in 1978, police started a nationwide campaign to find Derek after Wendy, Adele's mum, discovered he had previously disappeared from his parents' home 14 years before.
Despite their best efforts over the years, Derek remained missing.
But after 36-year-old Adele, from Nottingham, saw the success of the "no make-up selfie" craze – which dominated social media earlier this year – she felt inspired to create her own campaign.
So in March, Adele posted a picture of Derek on the social media website, pleading for help to find her parent. It quickly became a viral hit and was shared an astonishing 21,000 times!
Eventually, a man from Switzerland contacted Adele saying he knew her dad through a homeless charity and passed on his phone number.
The pair met for the first time on Derek's 69th birthday. Mum-of-three Adele told the Daily Mirror: "We spent seven hours together and got on like a house on fire. It's been amazing – the best 24 hours of my life.
"I want to thank each and every person who read and shared my post online, as without all of you, I would never have found him."
