However, the 51-year-old discovered it again after an astonishing six years - on her driveway!
The beautifully engraved wedding band was unearthed when Louise was digging to plant a tree in her front garden.
The retired computer analyst of Bury, Greater Manchester told The Sun: "I'd been out walking my mum's dog and when I came home and washed my hands, I realised it was gone. I was devastated."
So she is thrilled to be reunited with the precious ring, saying: "I'm over the moon. My replacement ring wasn't the same."
Her husband Paul, who paid £300 for the ring, was also shocked by her discovery, saying: "I couldn't believe it when she told me."
The generous couple, who have been married for 17 years, are now selling the replacement ring to raise funds for charity lendwithcare.org.
