James O'Kane claims that the first thing he remembers from his unexpected trip is waking up on the plane once it had landed at Schipol airport in Holland.
The 22-year-old supermarket worker can't recall his 4am taxi to Gatwick airport or buying the £232 ticket to the capital city.
James, who was clearly upset over his pal's death, admitted to drinking a lot of booze in the pub after the funeral in Kent. He told The Sun: "It was a sad day and I remember drinking a lot, but the next thing I knew a stewardess woke me up."
He had his passport with him as a form of ID to use in the pub.
Upon speaking with airline staff, the mourner discovered his return flight was in three days, but James had just £50 cash on him.
James called his mum Jann, who paid for his accommodation in the city but refused to get him an earlier flight as he "had made his bed and had to lie in it."
Skint, James had to spend three days wandering the city in his funeral suit and a pair of flip-flops that he purchased– as his smart shoes had started to hurt.
To top it all off, the mourner couldn't even take in the sights, as he'd left his glasses at home in Orpington.
