After the River Thames burst its banks causing entire neighbourhoods to flood, the little town of Egham, Surrey has a rather touching 'tail' to tell.

You would think flood victim Dave Pope would have more on his mind in the midst of devastation that surrounded him than rescuing a goldfish, but that's exactly what he did.

Dave told ITV News his fishy friend was "swimming down the street" along side him when he spotted "a splash of orange" and thought to himself "ello ello, a goldfish."

In a heartwarming gesture, Dave and his fellow neighbours rescued a total of three of the wriggling escapees and secured them in a broken tea pot that was part of the debris floating in and among the water.

If that doesn't give you faith in humanity, we don't know what will.
