But, if a recent survey by Prezzybox is anything to go by, we may not need to be so green-eyed, as it seems even couples aren't bothered by the romantic day.
The survey of 500 people found that 42 per cent of men hate Valentine's Day so much that they have feigned illness on 14 February to avoid it.
A massive 79 per cent of men would quite happily have a night out with their mates over a romantic dinner with their girlfriend too.
The study also found that 50 per cent of men are so stingy that they would suggest having a Valentine's meal on an alternative day, so they can use a 2 for 1 meal voucher. Who said romance was dead?
Women are no better though, as 65 per cent of the women surveyed admitted that they would rather be given cash than a present, and 47 per cent said that they wouldn't want to be given flowers.
So, if you're sitting at home this Valentine's Day eating a massive tub of ice cream to yourself, just think, all those couples out there are probably having a more miserable time than you. After all, who doesn't love ice cream?
