The onesie is the perfect item of clothing for chilling out at home but it seems that this popular garment now has an alternative purpose to just comfort.

Graphic design student Jessica Wynter, 21 says she was in the midst of her contractions when she gave birth to baby Kye while wearing a polka dot adult-sized onesie. She was staggering into King's College Hospital from the car park when she gave birth and claims that the onesie saved her baby's life.

The new mum stated that if she hadn't been wearing the onesie, baby Kye would have fallen straight onto the concrete pavement but luckily, he was found cradled in the onesie's leg.

Jessica was quoted in The Sun explaining: "It was incredibly lucky the onesie saved my baby's life."

And it was Jessica's mum, Christine, who found the newborn. "Within seconds of getting out of the car, Jessica screamed, 'He's here!' I undid the zip of her onesie and there he was, tucked up safely in the garment's leg."

A spokesperson from King's College Hospital, London said: "From time to time, babies can be delivered very quickly, meaning mums don't always get to the hospital in time. We're glad baby Kye is doing well."

Jessica was given the loungewear as a Christmas present by her grandmother and will keep it with her son's keepsakes.
