For most turkeys, their destiny is ending up on a dinner table at Christmas. But although he was never bred for this reason, Bernard the pet turkey has survived his own dramatic life-threatening events.

It all kicked off when poor Bernard went missing for 10 days after being snatched by a fox. His owner, Ellie Waite, feared the worst for her pet bird, who was aptly named Bernard after the turkey producer, Bernard Matthews.

Luckily, unbeknown to Ellie, a neighbour was nursing Bernard back to health nearby. However he soon endured some trouble again!

While recovering, the large bird wandered off from the neighbour's home, only to be attacked by a dog.

However, the dog's owner saved lucky Bernard again, passing him on to a friend who cared for him along with her own ducks and chickens.

A Facebook campaign was then launched to get Bernard back to his Norfolk home and, eventually, he was reunited with his owners.

Ellie, 32, was quoted in the Daily Mail saying: "He must be the luckiest turkey in the world."

It seems this turkey has almost as many lives as a cat!
