A chocolate Christmas favourite has undergone a sizzling makeover at a chip shop in Preston, where the owner has cast traditional fried treats aside for a more adventurous culinary pursuit. Introducing the deep fried, battered Fererro Rocher.

Corinne and John Clarkson, the owners of Mister Eaters on Longbridge Road, are also offering battered mince pies and Christmas puddings alongside the luxury chocolates.

Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal visited the couple last year and, according to John, became a big inspiration to them. Blumenthal is known for his innovative recipes, but is yet to conquer the fried Ferrero Rocher.

The battered chocolates sell at 50p each – or £1.40 for three – and have become a firm favourite with locals.

Corinne, 39, was quoted in the Daily Mail: "We all firmly agree that they are a great taste sensation. So wrong – yet so right.

The very idea of them puts a smile on your face, imagine what the taste will do."

Christmas isn't the only time of year that the Clarksons offer up wacky fried treats. This Halloween they sold deep fried Cadbury Scream Eggs, as well as selling cheesecake and teacakes throughout the year.

The experiments will continue into the New Year; no sweet treat is safe. Corinne told the Lancashire Evening Post: "There's not many things that people come up with that we haven't done. We will chuck anything in and see what it turns out like!"
