Usually this would just mean that your friend puts you in touch with their other single friends, but in the case of one bachelor his friend-turned-Cupid took to Twitter to help out her pal.
Single Ralph Ferrett, 34, from Plymouth asked Donna Golloway, 33, to help him get a date when they were celebrating a friend's birthday at a local pub.
Donna took to Twitter in the hope that one of its millions of users would snap up a date with Ralph. Describing him as intelligent, good looking and funny, she posted the tweet hash tagging it as GetRalphADate.
She was quoted in the Plymouth Herald explain how the campaign started: "I was chatting with Ralph and he said,"You have got so many followers, I want you to help me get a date. So I said "That's fine- I will help you get three dates in the next six months."
The Twitter campaign has had dozens of responses, ranging from all around the world including Dubai and Istanbul.
Hopeful Ralph who works as a trade union official with Royal Mail, is remaining hopeful, "I've been a bit unlucky in love, But this is the 21st century, Twitter is part of the zeitgeist, so who knows. Fingers crossed."
