In fact, out of the 2,000 women surveyed, nearly a third said that they felt the same amount of love for their pet as a husband or boyfriend. So it comes as no surprise that a whopping 81 per cent said they considered their pet part of the family, with 16 per cent letting their pets snuggle in bed with them at night.
A spokeswoman for the charity that carried out the survey, told the Daily Mail: "As Brits, we are a nation of animal-lovers and these results show that the bond we share with our pets is very strong indeed."
And if you find yourself arguing about who's doing the washing up after a long day at work, don't be surprised if you catch your wife on the sofa confiding in her furry friend.
That is because over half of female animal lovers said they loved their pet more after a row at home and that it would be a 'deal-breaker' if their partner did not get on with their cute companion.
The charity said that pets can't answer back or moan about the house, adding: "It's easy to have a blissful relationship with a pet which can't always be said of human relationships."
