If you ever wonder whether your friend's life sounds too good to be true, then it just might be.

A new survey has revealed that more than half of us tell little white lies to make us appear more interesting - and 70 per cent admitted to telling at least once a month because they want a more exciting life or job.

The survey of 2,000 people was commissioned by Jura Whisky and discovered that Londoners were the worst, as two thirds regularly told tall tales about their lives.

Women were also found to be more like to embellish a story than men.

Gemma Parkinson, a spokesperson for the whisky brand, said: "We are all natural storytellers at heart so it's not surprising most of us are keen to use some artistic licence telling our own stories."
