How do you choose where to go on holiday? Apparently, it's your job that determines where your destination will be.

A new survey carried out by the travel agent Sunshine discovered that 59 per cent of workers were unwittingly influenced by their career choice when it comes to making that all important holiday choice.

The research found that people who work in admin are more likely to choose the Algarve in Portugal for a break in the sun, whereas mechanics tend to opt for Spain's Costa del Sol.

If you work in Human Resources, the chances are that New York will be your vacation option. For construction workers, the exotic Egyptian resort Sharm el Sheikh is their number one destination to unwind and relax.

Spain proved to be popular throughout the survey, with the Balearic Islands preferred by those working in sales and marketing, while those working in education would rather head to Costa Blanca.

The survey was based on responses from 1,892 people who had been on holiday in the last year and were also in full-time employment.
