Japanese Akita Sheba has saved her owner Aysha Perry from choking to death by hitting her on the back with one of her paws.

The 18-year-old tattoo artist was eating dinner at home when a piece of chicken got stuck in her throat.

"I was on my own and genuinely thought I was going to die. She must have heard me choking and came running in from the kitchen," Aysha, from Sutton-in-Ashford, Notts, said.

"I was on the floor trying to get to my phone. She whacked me on the back with one of her huge front paws and the piece of meat flew out."

Aysha had only owned Sheba for two weeks but now the pair are firm friends.

She added: "Sheba knew she had saved my life. She licked my face and wouldn't let me go."

After that heroic act, we can't imagine Sheba will find herself in the dog house too often!
