Forget tummy tucks, facelifts and Botox. The latest surgery craze for those wanting to turn back the clock is apparently a 'voice-lift'.
Ear, nose and throat surgeons say they expect the surgery - which restores a youthful tone to patients' voices - to become popular with ageing men and women.
In order to work properly, vocal cords need to be pliable to vibrate thousands of times a minute. But just like other parts of the body, getting on in years affects how they work.
This can make your voice sound 'old'.
But now, those desperate to stay young can plump up their vocal chords, and boost the voice using a fat filler – in a similar way to plumping lips with collagen.
The bonkers surgery can cost up to £6.000.
"A lot of doctors and patients still don't know we can do something about ageing voices. But this field is growing rapidly because we now have a variety of innovative techniques to help them," says Yakuba Karagama, a specialist at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
