Treat yourself to this lower fat Spaghetti Carbonara recipe

Sometimes you just can't beat a bowl of satisfying pasta and once of our favourite Italian-inspired dishes has to be carbonara.

Served in a creamy sauce with ham and spaghetti, this delicious dish is a real family favourite. Better still, this recipe uses a lower fat alternative to the usual cream, making it a smaller 4g of fat per person – result!

Spaghetti carbonara

  • 300g ‘quick cook’ spaghetti
  • 250g Lake District Dairy Co. Garlic & Herb Cooking Sauce
  • 150g flaked ham hock or finely chopped ham
  • 4 tablespoons parsley, chopped


1 Bring a large pan of water to the boil, add the spaghetti and stir well. Simmer for 7 mins or according to pack instructions.

2 Drain the spaghetti in a colander reserving 100ml of the cooking water. Empty the garlic and herb cooking sauce into the pan and gently heat until piping hot.

3 Add the spaghetti, ham, parsley, nutmeg and 60ml of the cooking water and toss until all the spaghetti is nicely coated in sauce, add a little more cooking water if required.

4 Divide between warmed plates and serve garnished with more parsley.
