Safe House is coming back for a second series and ITV have teased the gripping storyline which will reunite leading co-stars Christopher Eccleston and Marsha Thomason.

The first series of the ITV drama aired in April last year and as a result of its ratings hits (it averaged 6.5 million viewers), the drama was recommissioned for another series.

A new series means a new story, which will be just as compelling and tense as before.

Safe House, Mon 20 Apr

Joining Christopher and Marsha for series two will be Cathy Tyson (Mona Lisa, Band of Gold), Ashley Walters (Cuffs, Bullet Boy), Steven Mackintosh (From There to Here, Inside Men) and Sacha Parkinson (Mr Selfridge, Coronation Street).

So, what will series two be all about?
Viewers will revisit Robert (Eccleston) and Katy (Thomason) who are settled into their life in the Lake District, but when news breaks of a disturbing and sinister crime, their world is turned upside down. John Channing, girlfriend Julie Delaney, and her daughter Dani are out enjoying a celebratory drink, but they find themselves under attack by an unknown assailant in their home, who also abducts Julie. On hearing the news, Robert drops everything to go and see the investigating officer and his former colleague, DCI Becky Gallacher (Christine Tremarco). The case appears to stem from 15 years ago when 'The Crow' perpetrated a series of abductions - taking wives away from their husbands - the bodies of these women were never recovered and presumed dead, but now, Robert believes 'The Crow' is active once again.

Will the storyline from series one be continued?
No, the story of the Blackwell family will not be revisited. However, viewers will learn about the fate of detective DCI Mark Maxwell (Paterson Joseph). He was Robert's former colleague and friend, but he soon turned betrayer and was last seen on the run at the end of the series after holding a gun to Robert's head.
