Interior designer and former Apprentice Star Ella Jade has a few tips to enhance our homes as we enter the New Year.

Now's the perfect time to chuck out the old and get in the new, and that includes decorating that spare room or having a complete redesign to transform your home.

Ella starred on the 10th series of The Apprentice, but got her marching orders from Lord Alan Sugar in the fourth week as part of a shock triple firing.

Ella Jade Chair Your Wish launch at Whiteley's Shopping Centre - 15 December 2015.

Now, Ella's fast becoming the new face of interior design, and she has designed homes for an array of stars including BAFTA winner Sheridan Smith.

Impressive right? Ella launched Ella Jade Interiors into Harrods, and it has now grown into a highly acclaimed interior design brand with two showrooms in London.

Check out Ella's top tips below:

1. Just by changing your lighting will make your room look bigger or give it a different atmosphere. Buying some brighter bulbs will give a room more light, this will make it appear bigger.

2. Buying a decorative lamp will not only give the room more light but can also become a statement piece in the room. Metal lamps or wooden lamps are all the trend.

3. Changing the colour of your walls to a natural based colour such as cream, beige, light grey or a pastel blue and then adding a splash of colour through cushions or rugs will give a new fresh feel which is classic and timeless.

4. Upgrading your worktops in your kitchen or bathroom is a minor alteration that can make a lasting impact. If you change your worktop to a Corian or Quartz based material, this will give a natural stone finish and instantly upgrade the look and quality of the room. Corian is non-absorbent and heat resistant whereas Quartz is manufactured anti-bacterial.

5. Ensuring all the wooden furniture and cabinets are the same wood colour will create that streamline finish. Perhaps there is one odd cabinet and if you either remove or replace this, it will make a big difference.

6. De-clutter is key! After Christmas, homes can get cluttered with all those Christmas decorations, presents and extra-washing up! Have a good clear out and organise each room so that it looks tidy. This will be heaven to the eyes!
