The actor and comedian, who made his debut on the soap in February as villain Vincent Hubbard, will feature in one of the main storylines this Christmas.
Viewers will see the war between the Mitchells and Hubbards continue to spiral out of control as they both go to extreme measures to protect those they love.
"I'm very privileged to be in the show and however long I'm supposed to be in there I feel privileged for that," said Richard. "But even when I auditioned for the role, I said, 'Whoever gets this role, it's going to take them to a different level.'
"Because with EastEnders – sometimes when you're a punter and you watch the show you don't realise how great the writers are. Sometimes, even when you're acting the scene, you're so caught up in the moment that you just act that scene, but when you see it play out you go, "Oh my God, these writers are on a different level."
In typical EastEnders fashion, Vincent will clash with the Mitchell family this Christmas as their feud comes to a head - but someone gets caught in the crossfire - and viewers will be on the edge of their seats as they find out if one of Albert Square's residents live to tell the tale.
Richard continued: "To be a part of this and to see myself on the screen alongside the legends that are sitting beside me and those behind the scenes, it's still very surreal for me and I'm still not used to it. But you'll be blown away."
