It told the story of a married couple, former detective Robert (Christopher Eccleston) and teacher Katy (Marsha Thomason), who were asked by their close friend and police officer Mark to turn their remote guest house in the Lake District into a safe house.

Robert and Katy ended up protecting a family in fear of their lives after being attacked by a man claiming to know them.

The first series, which aired in April, averaged 6.5 million viewers and the drama won its scheduling slot for each of the four episodes. It literally had us glued to our seats!

"We had a tremendous reaction from the audience to Safe House," said ITV's director of drama Steve November. "From the gripping story and compelling performances, we were delighted with every aspect of the production."

Details are being kept secret over the new storyline, but it will deliver a brand new story, as Robert and Katy continue to offer sanctuary to those in need of protection.

The second series of Safe House will be comprised of four 60 minute episodes and will begin filming in the Lake District in February 2016.
