Soap bosses confirmed that Declan has been written out of the primetime BBC One soap.
A spokesperson told The Sun: "We can confirm that Declan Benett will be leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."
Declan himself has addressed his exit, tweeting on Thursday night (23 July): "Sayonara EastEnders. It's been a right ride. Much love to all of you for the well wishes. See you on the flip side."
It is believed that Declan is currently working on his final scenes, and he was spotted filming at a train station with Rita Simons, who plays Roxy Mitchell.
Declan made his first appearance as Charlie in March 2014. As the long-lost son of Nick Cotton, Charlie's arrival in Albert Square paved the way for Nick, who was believed to be dead, but was actually alive.
Charlie also wasted no time in attracting attention from the ladies, and after marrying Ronnie Mitchell, who he has a child with, he soon embarked on an affair with her sister Roxy while Ronnie was in a coma.
Declan isn't the first person to get the chop from the popular soap. In June, it was announced that Danielle Harold, who plays Lola Pearce, will be written out of the soap.
