Lime Pictures' Derek McLean told The Sun: "We are so thrilled to announce we have been commissioned for six more series of TOWIE. It is not only the leading show for ITVBe, it is a huge priority for ITV in general."

Derek also revealed that show bosses are keen for it to become just as big as some of its mainstream soaps.

"We want TOWIE to become an ongoing, real-life soap opera," he continued. "It is just as important to ITVBe as Coronation Street or Emmerdale are to ITV."

The BAFTA winning reality series airs two nights a week on Sunday and Wednesday, and has grown to become one of the most popular British reality shows, with tons of drama making it addictive viewing. The show is filmed, shot and edited within a week of transmission.

TOWIE first aired on ITV2 in 2010. It moved to its new sister channel ITVBe in 2014.

The cast are currently in Marbella filming for the 15th series, which will return later this month.
