Jake, who plays Jo's on-screen ex-husband Max Branning in the BBC One soap, said his co-star's gaff added to the "excitement" of the special episode.
Appearing on ITV1's This Morning live from Albert Square today, Jake said: "I think it was part of the excitement - and people definitely knew it was live at that point!
"I think Jo did incredibly well. She had three or four big scenes after that and put it straight behind her, so she's a true pro."
Jo's mistake came while her character Tanya Branning was having a conversation with Jane Beale. Instead of asking how Ian - played by Adam Woodyatt - was, she said: "How's Adam?"
Following her fluff, the hashtag #HowsAdam began trending on Twitter and Jo used the social networking site herself to admit she was "gutted" by her error.
However, just like he had her back this morning, Jake made light of the situation by sharing a fake script with Jo on Twitter. In a screen shot of the script, Ian is explaining to Phil Mitchell that he has decided to change his name to Adam, adding that only Tanya knows about his decision!
This week, EastEnders is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and every episode has been featuring live segments. Viewers know what is being aired live due to a 'EELive' symbol at the top of the scene.
Tonight (19 February), fans will finally discover who killed Lucy Beale - a storyline that has kept the nation gripped since last year. This will be followed by an entirely live episode tomorrow night.
No pressure, guys!
