Joey Essex has been crowned this year's champion of The Jump, beating off competition from actual sports professionals.

Former TOWIE star Joey found himself in the final of last night's show with celebrities including rugby ace Mike Tindall and Louise Hazel, but he still managed to leap to victory.

Despite taking a tumble and losing a ski in the first round, Joey went on to be crowned this year's winner of the Channel 4 reality series.

After discovering he'd won, Joey - who had never skied before the show - told host Davina McCall: "I thought it was going to a nightmare, I didn't think it was going to survive.

"Growing up I found it hard to learn things, but being on The Jump has proved I can."

He added: "I never thought I'd be able to ski, let alone get to the final. And never thought I'd own a medal, let alone a cow bell."

Prior to his success on the slopes, Joey had Instagrammed a snap of himself looking pensive before the final.

He told his followers: "No matter what comes your way, stay positive and stay grateful. Never lose hope, never stop fighting for what you believe in #TheThinker #TheJump."

Fellow competitor, Jodie Kidd has since posted a picture of herself and the champ on Twitter. Alongside it, she commented: "@JoeyEssex_ number one top lad, top jumping, top friend. Well Done."
