After seven years on the ITV1 soap, fans will see Julie leave as her romance with Dev Alahan hits the rocks.

Katy, who is now hoping to pursue other projects, said: "I have loved every minute in the world of Julie Carp and I'm not ruling out a return to the Street in the future. However I am looking forward to a new challenge and a pair of flat shoes."

Julie first appeared in Corrie in April 2008 and was introduced as Kirk Sutherland's new girlfriend. Julie then had a drunken snog with Jason Grimshaw, but things didn't develop further once she realised she and Eileen Grimshaw were half-sisters, so Jason was in fact her nephew!

Julie also enjoyed had a romance with headteacher Brian Packham, but their relationship ran far from smoothly, and they split after two years.

Julie's latest love interest has been shop owner Dev, but we're told their relationship will start to unravel on Dev's return from India, which forces Julie to re-think her life and decide to move away.

Execitive producer Stuart Blackburn said: "Julie Carp has become a warm, wonderful and eccentric character able to raise a laugh and a tear in the same scene.

"Everyone at Corrie wishes Katy all the very best and hopefully as far as Julie is concerned, the cobbles haven't seen the last of her."
