Viewers will see Carly arrive in the village in a bid to make up for lost time with seven-times married Bob, however her presence ends up making his life difficult.

She does, however, have more in common with her dad than he realises - mainly when it comes to romance!

Speaking about her new role, Gemma says: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Emmerdale and I cannot wait to see what's in store for Carly. I hope you all enjoy watching her story unfold."

Gemma first found fame playing Lisa Hunter in C4 soap Hollyoaks between 2001 and 2005. She has since reprised the role twice in spin-off shows Hollyoaks: Let Loose and Hollyoaks: In The City.

She has also appeared on stage in the West End show Calendar Girls and, more recently, has been playing the role of paramedic Tamzin in BBC One medical drama Casualty.

Gemma will make her Emmerdale debut later this year. Kate Oates, Series Producer, adds: "I'm delighted to welcome Gemma to the cast, her character Carly is sure to liven things up for Bob and Brenda and anyone who crosses her path."
