Ben, 23, will bow out of Albert Square as market stall trader Peter, with a spokesperson telling Reveal that the actor will leave "at the end of his contract".
Show bosses are keeping tight-lipped about his exit but it has now been speculated that Peter could be his sister Lucy Beale's murderer.
Lucy was killed off in April and viewers have watched Walford residents come under question in recent months, but with Lucy's killer still on the loose, the storyline is not set to conclude until the special live episode in February next year.
News of Ben's exit follows overnight US reports, which claims he has been tipped for a role in upcoming X-Men film Apocalypse as a young Cyclops.
Ben joined EastEnders as the new Peter in April 2013 and arrived on screen in June, taking over from Thomas Law.
Some of Ben's recent storylines as Peter include the death of his sister Lucy, as well as his romance with Lola Pearce and Lauren Branning.
Ben is now the second star to quit this week, as Sam Strike - who plays Johnny Carter - also announced his decision to leave the soap.
