Rugby star Thom Evans was the fourth celebrity to be sent home from Strictly Come Dancing in a shock exit.

Met with disbelief by the judging panel, Thom had to take on Blue singer Simon Webbe in the dance off.

Following his performance of the Cha Cha with his professional partner Iveta Lukosiute, Thom was then voted off of the competition by head judge Len Goodman after he had the deciding vote.

On hearing Thom would be taking to the floor once again to fight for his place in the competition, Len told the 29-year-old he didn't deserve to be in the bottom two as there were many other couples who were not as good as he had been.

He said: "The viewers think that you're safe, but I say if you don't phone, don't moan. That's the bottom line. I'm sorry Thom, it's undeserved."

Following both dance off performances, the judges were torn between which star to save.

While Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell decided to save Thom and Iveta, Bruno Tonioli opted to keep Simon and his partner Kristina Rihanoff, as he thought their performance was the most polished.

With the deciding vote then left to head judge Len, Thom was eventually sent home after Len saved Simon for having the "cleanest footwork" on the night.

Speaking about his exit, Thom said: "This experience has just exceeded all of my expectations. It's been one of the best experiences I've ever done.

"Everyone does such a fantastic job and makes you feels so confident going into every show. It really is a joy to be a part of."

He then went on to thank his partner, Iveta - who has previously hinted romance could be on the cards for the pair.

"Iveta has been so immensely patient with me, she couldn't have worked harder or given me better choreography," Thom said. "I really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Meanwhile, after facing the dance off for the second time, Simon will join the remaining 10 couples to dance again next weekend.

Last week, Tim Wonnacott was the third celebrity to be sent home from Strictly after the panel voted to save former TOWIE star Mark Wright.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday (1 November) at 6.30pm and Sunday (2 November) at 7.20pm.
