Taking over from James Alexandrou, Martin will now be played by James Bye, and viewers will see him in action when Martin makes his return to Albert Square this winter.
Having left Walford in February 2007, Martin's return will see him re-join wife Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) in an attempt to spend more time with their daughter Rebecca, and to ultimately repair his rocky marriage.
Executive Producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, said: "With James Alexandrou's blessing - something which was very important to us - we have recast everyman Martin Fowler after extensive auditions.
"Martin is an EastEnders original - the first baby born on the Square and part of the show's roots - and as we celebrate 30 years on Albert Square, it's important to look backwards as we move forwards."
As well as reconnecting with the familiar faces of Albert Square, Martin is expected to upset a few new ones with his direct approach.
Martin's marriage to Sonia has also been slowly deteriorating and, with his estranged wife seeking solace with Tina Carter, surely it's only a matter of time before secrets spill!
Ahead of his new role, James Bye said: "It's an honour to be joining the cast of such a great show - especially as part of the long standing Fowler family. It's a huge opportunity for me to put my own stamp onto an iconic character and I can't wait to get started!"
